5 Features Worth Checking Out in Motorola Android 17 Update

The Motorola Android 17 update brings plenty of new features such as stackable widgets, live updates support for apps, and adjustable brightness for HDR content. Here’s everything new with the update:

1. Improved Homescreen Customization

Motorola has added two new features to help you customize your homescreen:

  • Stackable Widgets: One of the biggest changes with the Motorola Android 17 update is the stackable widget on your homescreen. You can now stack up multiple widgets into a single one with this update. You can now have your weather, calendar, battery, and music player in a single grid rather than consuming multiple.
  • Themed Icons: You can now use third-party icon themes on your homescreen to match your wallpaper theme. To apply themed icons, tap and hold a space on your homescreen, then tap Home Settings -> Themed Icons.

2. Live Updates And Notifications Improvements

The Motorola Android 17 update finally adds Live Updates similar to ColorOS, letting you keep track of your food deliveries and orders. So instead of getting multiple notifications, you can check the live status of orders, ongoing music, timers, etc. Here are all the other notification improvements coming with the update:

  • Hide Quick Settings in Classic Style. If you are one of those still using the Classic Style for Quick Settings, you can hide its labels. This will help you achieve a cleaner and more minimalistic look while helping you free up some valuable space.
  • Summary for Notifications: You can now get a one-line summary for notifications from messaging apps like Messages and WhatsApp. For all those lengthy chats in WhatsApp, you will receive a continuous single-line live snippet instead of multiple notifications.
  • Organized Notifications: Your phone can now automatically organize and sort your personal messages. It can automatically separate your personal apps from the rest of the notification spam. Also, it can bundle lower-priority notifications and put them under one group of silent notifications.

3. Visual changes

The quick settings panel has been refreshed with a touch of Liquid Glass similar to the one we get on the Edge 70 Max and Motorola G77 Power. It will be available to older phones with the Motorola Android 17 update. The Settings app has also been revamped and is easier to navigate with more prominent buttons. Other changes include Live updates for Maps, Music, Clock, etc.

4. HDR Brightness Control

When viewing HDR content, you will notice that the phone cranks up the brightness to the maximum for the best viewing experience. Whether you are watching HDR content on Instagram, YouTube, or Google Photos, this is noticeable. With the Motorola Android 17 update, you can now adjust the intensity of HDR brightness for a more comfortable viewing experience. It lets you turn it off entirely, converting HDR photos and videos to normal content

5. Performance And Other Changes

It’s not just the new features, as there are plenty of other changes in the Motorola Android 17 update. Here are all the changes coming with the update:

  • Connected Devices: You can share photos and files with other devices by placing your phones together with the Tap to Share feature. Similarly, if you are sharing photos with a group, you can use Quick Drop and create a reusable group for sharing files and photos.
  • Performance Upgrades: The Motorola Android 17 update offers smoother performance and stability, along with better battery life in some cases.
  • New Accessibility Tools: This update also adds more organised tools for Accessibility Settings such as Vision, Display size, and Magnification so you can easily find and adjust them.
  • Device Diagnostics Menu: The Motorola Android 17 update has been added to Settings, letting you check the component health and related hardware details.
  • Cross-Platform File Sharing: It also adds AirDrop support so you can natively share files with your iPhone friends as long as AirDrop is turned on on the receiving device.
  • Improved Security: The Motorola Android 17 update adds a new Failed Authentication Lock feature, apart from improvements to PIN security and more privacy options.
  • Smarter Photo Sharing: If you are texting with someone on Google Messages, your Motorola phone can suggest photos of that person you are chatting with via Google Photos.
  • Smoother Hotspot Sharing: Sharing a hotspot connection with your friend takes less time now. Also, the nearby audio stream feature lets you connect with audio devices quicker.
  • Better Scam Detection in Google Messages: Google Messages can now more proactively scan suspicious and fraudulent messages with the new update.
