Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Will Cost More than Previous Flagships

According to a report by Bloomberg, Qualcomm is raising prices for its premium chipset by double digits. In a letter sent to its customers, this price hike will be implemented for products shipped after September 1, 2026.

This means the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra and other Android flagships launching next year will get a massive price hike. The tech industry has already been squeezed by an ongoing chip shortage driven by AI datacenter demand, and Qualcomm’s move is only expected to add to the pressure.

The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is likely to run on Qualcomm’s next top-tier chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Thanks to the ongoing shortage, the chipset was already expected to cost more, and the new price hike will only make matters worse.

The surge in demand from AI companies hasn’t just driven up RAM and memory prices; it’s also expected to worsen chipset shortages. Qualcomm’s chipsets are manufactured by TSMC, which is under intense pressure to keep up with demand. Despite ramping up production, the shortage is expected to persist for a while.

Samsung’s recent launches, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, also reflect this trend. The Z Fold 8 is priced ₹10,000 more than last year’s Z Fold 7. The latest rumours suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is now expected to start at ₹1,49,999, making it the most expensive slab phone from Samsung.

What To Expect From the S27 Ultra?

The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to feature a quad-camera setup on the back: a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide, a 50MP telephoto with 5x zoom, and a second 10MP telephoto lens. For selfies, it’s tipped to get an upgraded 16MP front camera with OIS for the first time. The 50MP ultrawide sensor is also expected to be a new, upgraded module.

Some reports claim that the S27 Ultra will have a single telephoto lens, while others suggest the presence of only a single lens. Until Samsung confirms the specs, it’s best to take these claims with a pinch of salt.

On the performance front, the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Like the Z Fold 7, it’s rumored to use a silicon-carbon battery, which could bump capacity slightly to 5,500mAh.
