Last year, Vivo made the switch to OriginOS globally from its previously aging FunTouchOS. The OriginOS 7 update has finally been revealed, and it’s coming to Vivo and iQOO devices. From a customizable liquid glass design to fluid animations and AI features, here’s everything new coming with the OriginOS 7 update.

OriginOS 7 Features: What’s Changed?

OriginOS 7 brings plenty of new features, including a new Liquid Glass design, smoother animations, and improved battery backup. Here are 9 new features that you will find in the new OriginOS 7 update:

1. New Liquid Glass Design

Inspired by iOS 27, Vivo is adding a touch of Liquid Glass with the OriginOS 7 update. Called the Light and Shadow visual system, it can react to changes in movement, time, and user interactions. There are three liquid glass effects to choose from: Real, Natural, and Soft. The icons and widgets are now transparent with deeper light and shadows.

2. Flashcards On Lockscreen

With OriginOS 7, the company is introducing new lockscreen themes. Remember collecting flashcards in your childhood? Well, the Flash Cards theme lets you collect and show similar cards on your lock screen. It uses your gyroscope to react to light and shadow. You can also adjust the length and thickness of the lock screen. There are also new interactive pet themes with movement, charging, low battery, and music synchronization effects.

3. Transparent Control Centre

Another new feature in the OriginOS 7 update is the updated Control Centre. Compared to OriginOS 6, it now gets a touch of Liquid Glass just like the rest of the UI. Interestingly, it is now one step closer to ColorOS rather than iOS. Also, there’s a glow effect when you play/pause in the control centre. This is a major step compared to the opaque control centre in OriginOS 6. Another change is the ability to customize and edit icons in the control centre.

4. Smoother Animations

The OriginOS 7 update adds three new types of animations across the user interface:

  • Atomic Animations: jelly-like effects, deformation, shimmering, and ripple effects across the UI.
  • Elastic animations: Consistently smooth effects across widgets, apps, and page elements
  • Interruptible Interaction: Apps respond to your next swipe instantly rather than waiting for the current animation to finish.

5. New Background Effects In Dock

Since liquid glass is a major focus of the OriginOS 7 update, you get several background effects in the homescreen dock. So if you apply a live wallpaper, these effects will be visible across the dock. Since there are three new transparency types to choose from, you can adjust the clarity of the dock based on your liking.

6. Atomic Workbench

Taking a page out of Apple’s Stage Manager feature, the OriginOS 7 update adds a new multitasking feature called Atomic Workbench. You can now open upto five apps in a side panel and switch between them easily. Previously available on Vivo’s foldable phones, it’s now making its way over to regular slab phones. You can either open apps in a left-right layout for better switching or keep one app in focus while showing others at the bottom with the top-bottom layout.

7. New AI Features

The OriginOS 7 update brings plenty of useful AI features to improve your productivity. Here’s a look at all of them:

  • AI Screenshot Direct Access: You can convert your physical movie tickets and vouchers into digital ones by scanning their details. It will also fetch other information, including their expiry date.
  • Gallery Quick Clean: Finds similar images with AI and suggests which ones you can delete.
  • Vivo Keyboard: It suggests documents, schedules, and contacts while you are chatting with someone.
  • AI File Manager: It groups similar files based on their topics and lets you find them using Small V.
  • Atomic Notes: Third-party apps can now access your notes for context and provide results for them.
  • AI Recorder: Shows the contents of the recording with a progress bar while highlighting the key points of the speaker.
  • AI Health Features: Gives you daily points for food and workouts and provides weekly AI reports
  • AI Photo Retouching: Lets you clean up and remove objects using AI

8. Better Battery Management

Apart from smoother animations and performance upgrades, OriginOS 7 also improves battery backup, charging, and other activities. Here are all the features:

  • Transparent Battery Life: Shows the remaining time for navigation, video calls, and online meetings along with the charging duration left.
  • Micro Power Wizard 3.0: Lets you make calls and send texts with your location when the battery is critically low. All tasks are resumed when you charge your phone.
  • Blue Ocean Smart Engine: Consumes 11 percent less battery in tasks such as navigation, photography, and meetings.
  • Heterogeneous computing: Visual effects such as animation and on-screen rendering now consume upto 20 percent less battery. Similarly, ambient light sensors now take up to 13 percent less battery.
  • Ultra Long Network Standby: OriginOS 7 update reduces background wakeups to increase the standby duration by 6 percent.
  • Global Direct Power Supply 3.0: Adjusts the charging speed and trickle-down speed at higher temperatures to improve battery life by 3 percent.

9. Other Changes

Apart from new visual and performance changes, here’s everything else coming with the OriginOS 7 update

  • Blue River Engine: The Blue River Engine provides better computation, display rendering, and system-level coordination. It offers 14 percent smoother rendering and a 19 percent improvement in page switching. Apps open 12 percent faster while memory recycling is 60 percent quicker.
  • Storage Compression 2.0: With this feature, Vivo claims you will free upto 20GB of storage on a smartphone with 256GB of storage.
  • System-Wide Sticker Library: The OriginOS 7 update will bring a new system-wide sticker library, letting you add stickers on the home screen, album, wallpapers, and even on the Always On Display. You can even create your own stickers from your photos.
  • New Flash Card themes: Last but not least, OriginOS 7 improves upon Flash Cards by letting you add your photos, characters, and places to flash cards.
  • Gaming Glare Protection: Protects your eyes from glare in high-brightness scenarios while gaming and adjusts the display accordingly.
  • Dual Path Directional Audio: Lets you play audio from the phone speaker and Bluetooth simultaneously.
