Apple Music Gets More Expensive In India, See New Plans And Price

Apple is on a pricing spree in India. After hiking rates across its hardware lineup and AppleCare+ plans, the company has now turned its attention to Apple Music. The increase isn’t as steep as the one that hit its MacBooks and iPads, but subscribers will still need to pay more to keep streaming, and the hike touches every plan, from Student to Individual to Family. This is the first time Apple Music prices have been revised since 2022, and the change isn’t just limited to India. Here are the latest Apple Music prices in India after the hike.

Apple Music Price In India Revised: Here’s How Much It Costs Now

Apple Music’s India pricing has gone up by roughly 17 to 28 percent, depending on the plan:

• Student: ₹69/month (up from ₹59)
• Individual: ₹139/month (up from ₹119)
• Family: ₹229/month (up from ₹179)

However, the plan that seems to have taken the biggest hit is the Family plan, which now costs ₹229 per month instead of ₹179 previously. This is the plan that lets you share with five other people in your family. The good thing is that the perks for all three plans remain the same as before.

Why Is Apple Music Getting Expensive?

So what’s the reason behind the Apple Music price hike in India and other markets? Well, Apple has attributed “increasing licensing costs” for the hike. Interestingly, the last time Apple hiked prices for Apple Music was back in 2022, which was also due to “rising licensing costs”.

Apple One Still Remains The Better Deal

The Apple One Individual plan remains a better deal if you use the Apple Music Individual plan

Those currently subscribed to the Apple Music Individual plan can instead opt for the Apple One Individual plan. Not only do you get Apple Music Individual, but you also get access to Apple TV+, Apple Music, and Apple Arcade. At ₹195/month, it packages all four services for well below what they’d cost separately:

• iCloud+: ₹75/month
• Apple TV: ₹99/month
• Music: ₹139/month
• Arcade: ₹99/month

Bought individually, these four services add up to ₹412/month. That means Apple One still saves subscribers ₹217/month, or about 53 percent, even after the Apple Music price hike.

Apple Music Vs Spotify: Which Is Cheaper In India?

Apple Music’s Individual and Student plans now cost the same as Spotify Premium in India. The one place Apple still holds an edge is the Family plan, which remains cheaper than Spotify’s Platinum tier at ₹299 per month.

It’s worth noting that Apple Music’s Family plan is not only cheaper than Spotify but also lets you share with five people compared to three on Spotify. For the tradeoff, Spotify throws in a personal AI DJ, AI playlist creation, and the ability to connect your own DJ software.

Spotify also offers a free ad-supported tier, something Apple Music has never had. For first-time users, Spotify gives you two months at the price of one, while Apple Music offers a one-month free trial.

Is iPhone Price Hike On The Cards Next?

With Apple raising prices across its products and services, many are wondering if the iPhone is next in India. The company has so far held the line on smartphone pricing, but that resistance may not last much longer.

Component costs have been climbing industry-wide as AI-driven demand for memory chips pushes prices higher, and even Apple hasn’t been immune. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently called further price increases “unavoidable,” and the company just raised iPhone prices in Japan by up to 11 percent, largely due to a weak yen.
